ABOUT US
After immigrating from the Netherlands to Canada, Bas van Andel started Durham Drafting Service in the early 1970s to pursue his passion for architectural design and construction. The residential and commercial buildings he designed can be seen throughout the Durham region. Over the years the company has evolved to Durham Drafting and Design. Our team of designers are equipped with years of industry experience ranging in various building types, size, and scope of work.

Bas van Andel
FOUNDER, CONSULTANT
Bas has over 50 years of hands-on experience with in the architecture and construction industry. His creative flare and attention to detail have been admired and awarded.
Bas founded Durham Drafting & Design, to pursue his passion for architecture design.
Bas is now retired and is taking on a consultant role with in Durham Drafting and Design.
Outside of designing & consulting, he enjoys golfing.
Shawn van Andel
OWNER, OPERATIONS MANAGER

Shawn developed his keen eye for detail within the construction industry. By watching and learning from his dad (Bas van Andel) working late into the night over his drafting table, designing beautiful custom homes.
He has a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Queens University and has his BCIN (Building Code Identification Number) certification in Housing.
Shawn became owner of Durham Drafting and Design when Bas retired. Shawn now manages the operations of Durham Drafting and Design.
When not managing the day-to-day operations, he enjoys spending time with family.
Michael Saunders
MANAGER, SENIOR DESIGNER

Mike is an experienced designer, whose award winning work can be seen throughout the GTA.
Mike joined the Durham Drafting & Design team in the Winter of 2019.
He has a Architectural Technician Diploma from George Brown College and went on to get his Canadian Specialist in Accessible Housing Design Certificate from Mount Royal University.
He has his BCIN (Building Code Identification Number) certification in Housing, Small building, and
On-Site Sewage categories.
Mike has over 15 years of experience in the architecture and construction industry and is proficient in Revit and AutoCAD.
When Mike is not designing homes, he enjoys spending time with his family

Lisa van Andel
ADMINISTRATIVE MANAGER

Lisa grew up in the Niagara region, where her father and brothers still reside. All are involved in the construction industry in one form or another. So, it was only natural that she would run the day to day office administration duties at Durham Drafting and Design.
Outside of the office, she enjoys spending time with friends and family and on her spare time running her kids around to sports.
Gavin Ramsay

Gavin brings a high level of thoroughness in all of his work.
Gavin joined the Durham Drafting & Design team in the fall of 2022.
He has a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Lawrence Technological University and an Architectural Technology Diploma from St. Clair College.
He has his BCIN (Building Code Identification Number) certification in Housing, Small building.
Gavin has over 5 years of experience in the architecture and construction industry and is proficient in Revit and AutoCAD.
Outside the studio, he enjoys custom wood working and hiking.
